Career as Assistant Commandant in Coast Guards is indeed a tough one, which demands braveness, responsibility, dedication, mental stability and full of courage. So rigorous procedures are involved while selecting candidates for Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard, as the job requires only the best among all eligible applicants.

The selection process for Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard involves two stages. Preliminary round and Final selection, followed by medical exam. Let us see in detail.

Preliminary Selection Process for Assistant Commandant exam

The Preliminary Selection consists of Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Picture Perception (PP) and Discussion Test (DT).

Mental Ability Test: The MAT test for Assistant Commandant exam consists of General Awareness and Reasoning. So you need to be strong in Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning to get through this exam.

Picture Perception & Discussion Test: Only the qualified candidates from the MAT test are eligible for this test. In PP&DT test of Assistant Commandant, a picture for approximately 30 seconds or so will be shown to you, from which you need to build a story in about 3 or 4 minutes, on what you perceived. Then on Discussion test, each member of the group narrates the story of what they perceived from the picture, and overall as a group, you have to arrive at a common theme for the story based on the picture shown. The shortlisted candidates from this test will be called for Final selection.

Final Selection Process for Assistant Commandant exam

The final selection consists of Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and Self Description Test (SD).

TAT: This is similar to PP&DT, but here you will not have any discussion. Just a 12 slides of picture will be shown to you for about 30 seconds and you need to write a story on them.

WAT: Here about 60 words are shown in series, for about 15 seconds each and you are requested to write the first thing that comes to your mind.

SRT: This is similar to case studies, where you will be given some situations and you need to write your reactions based on that situation.

SD: Here you need to describe yourself in a passage.

How to Prepare for Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Exam, Books & Study Materials


As such there is no training required to prepare for Coast Guard Assistant Commandant exam. There is only one written part in this exam i.e. Mental Ability which is just to test your mental ability and your reasoning skills. I got Call letter from Indian Coast Guard(Asst. Commandant General Duty).My question is it require minimum 60% in Graduation.I filled 54.23% still i get call letter.Should i appear for interview or not????

Hi, I got a mail from Indian Coast Guard careers that I have to attend for a preliminary selection at Chennai. I don't have pilot license..They said that we have to submit our pilot license approved by DGCA. Am I eligible for the selection?
